Crankshaft Seal replacement (rear) in VOLVO B9R Multiaxle

The steps involved in Crankshaft Seal Replacement (Rear) in a VOLVO B9R Multiaxle is as described below :

Gearbox removed

Special tools : 9990113, 9992000

1. Remove the clutch plates. Remove the pressure plate. Remove the flywheel.

2. Apply the tool 9990113 and drill two 3.5 mm holes in the metal edge of the sealing using the guide holes in the tool as a template. Apply grease to the drill to prevent swarf entering the timing gear casing

3. Screw in 2 self-tapping screws (M5 x 35 mm) into the seal through the tool's guide holes.

4. Screw in two M10 screws into the drift and draw out the seal.

5. Clean the sealing seat in the timing gear cover and the sealing surface on the crankshaft.

6. Place the tapered guide ring in the drift.

    Caution : Check the tapered guide ring and the drift. Any damage to the tool can ruin the seal.

7. Apply engine oil to the outer edge and lip of the new sealing. Pull the sealing onto the drift with the tapered ring as a guide.

8. Remove the tapered guide ring.

9. Carefully tap the new seal in place until the drift bottoms on the crankshaft gear. Remove the drift and check that the felt ring is fitted correctly.

10. Fit the flywheel.

11. Install the pressure plate and clutch plates and tighten according to specification.
