Guwahati - Dhaka Bus Service - Trial Run Starts

India and Bangladesh have started an International Bus Service Connecting the North Eastern Part of India with the capital of Bangladesh. Bus connecting capital of State of Assam, Guwahati, also known as the Gateway of North East India and Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh have started its trial run on 10th December 2014.

The Guwahati - Dhaka route is of historic significance, as its said to be snapped during the partition of both the countries. A 496 km route runs via Shillong, Dawki Border Point in Meghalaya, and Syllet in Bangladesh.

Assam Public Works Department Minister, Ajanta Neog flagged off the trial run of the Guwahati - Dhaka bus service from the Guwahati ISBT (Inter State Bus Terminus).

The beautifully decorated deluxe air conditioned bus of the ASTC (Assam State Transport Corporation) left with a joint delegation of India and Bangladesh for a technical survey of the route for starting a regular bus service between Guwahati and Dhaka via Shillong and Dawki border point in Meghalaya to facilitate passenger movement between the two South Asian neighbours through a third route.
India and Bangladesh started first bus service between Kolkata and Dhaka in 1995 and another connecting Agartala and Dhaka in 2002.
