Ethanol as an alternative fuel

Daniel Milione, Product Manager, Alternative Fuels, Scania speaks about the importance of ethanol as an alternative fuel. 

He describes about three factors which are being considered for evaluating a sustainable fuel which is commercially viable : 
  • It has to reduce CO2
  • It has to be available in sufficient quantity
  • Pricing must be economical
Mr Daniel speaks about advantages with ethanol with its availability in large quantities in the world and upto 90 percent good environmental performace. 

Upon asked upon challenges of ethanol being implemented as an alternative fuel he says that the mix between fuel availability, infrasturcture and pricing must be correct for customers. 

He says "Its often policies and regulations of the society that is vital for this to happen It is really important to get long term decision for example taxes fro alternative fuels for customers, to go for this."

Mr Daniel added that the keeping in mind the engine technology and environmental performance, ethanol is excellent as fuel for heavy transport. He forecasts that ethanol will be a boost for sustainable transport. 

He speaks about Paris - which will prohibit the use of diesel vehicles in heavy transports by 2020, and cited that ethanol will be an excellent choice to go for, instead of diesel. 

"Scania has a robust technology and it see's a growing customer interest in terms of ethanol as an alternative fuel intiative," says Daniel Milione.
