SRS Travels launched new VOLVO B11R buses on Rajasthan Routes

SRS Travels, a leader in the bus fleet operator services in the country, launched its new fleet of VOLVO I-Shift 9400PX B11R buses on Jodhpur, Jalore and Udaipur routes from Bengaluru on 31st August.  The new buses introduced are a part of SRS's fleet expansion with 10 new VOLVO B11R buses.

Speaking to Ozobus, SRS Sources, told that the strategy to ply long distance buses covering almost 2000 kms  to Rajasthan from Bengaluru is to cater to travelling needs of the Rajasthani community in the city, who represent the business and  trade sectors. Getting train tickets urgently have been a problem. The Volvo multiaxle services not only ensured good connectivity, but also guaranteed reaching the destination 12 hours ahead of train schedules. 

Reflecting the optimism in chosing Volvo as their brand choice, SRS sources told that, "Volvo is a proved product. Being in India from 2001, Volvo have understood the Indian conditions well and have catered very well to the fleet operator needs as well as caring for the comfort, luxury and safety of the passengers onboard. We are using Volvo buses for around four years on Rajasthan routes, and are satisfied with the product performance and excellence on long routes like Rajasthan". They further added that introducing new Volvo B11R I-Shift multiaxles is a step ahead on part of the operator to provide comfort and cater to carry more passengers on these routes, by introducing 14.5 mtr coaches. "We have currently purchased 10 new VOLVO B11R I-Shift multiaxles and soon more such vehicles will join our fleet", added the spokesperson from SRS.

The Volvo 9400PX is built on the new light - weight Volvo PX platform, which provides enhanced gradeability and acceleration as well as enhanced stability. The new coach also packs a performance like never before with the new Volvo 11-litre engine with 370 hp. The new Volvo 9400PX offers maximum availability with low maintenance, long service life and lowest fuel consumption, with the new and powerful Volvo D11A engine, specially adapted for intercity application. The in-line six clylinder 11-litre engine with an overhead camshaft, four valves per cylinder and precisely controlled electronic injectors meets the BS III emission standards. The engine's various functions are entirely controlled by Volvo's EMS (Engine Management System), which contributes to low fuel consumption and low exhaust emissions. The D11A is available with powerful and efficient Volvo Engine Brake (VEB) with braking power upto 265 kW providing a good vehicle control and reduced brake line wear especially on downhill drive, complementing the performance of  D11A engine is Volvo's unique I-Shift - Intelligent 12-speed gear box with an automatic gear changing system that provides high drivability and ride comfort and excellent fuel economy. The Volvo 9400PX has an integral hydraulic power assisted steering system. A distinct feature of the Volvo 9400PX is the steerable tag axle, which provides vastly improved maneuverability, making it particularly useful in congested trafic conditions and winding stretches on highways. The steering geometry provides turning radius of 11.7 mtr for a wheel base of 8.35 mtr. the fuel tank has a capacity of 540 litres - (540x1) with filling option on both sides. The coach has 2 alternators with (150A x 2 alt) current capacity to meet the high load of electricity required for bus operation. The interiors complement the sturdy exteriors with an aesthetic and spacious design. The excellent air conditioning, vibration and noise free interiors offer an unmatched smooth ride. The new Volvo PX suspension system enhances the stability and comfort levels. The full air suspension ensures a smooth and comfortable ride. The electronically controlled suspension (ECS) system provides extremely precise regulation of ride height. Each air spring assembly consists of a telescopic damper and an anti-roll bar is included in the rear and front suspension. Apart from the built-in hi-tech features in the coach, SRS have installed cctv cameras for passenger security. The coaches also have laptop / mobile chargers for each row. They are monitored remotely through gps units installed in them.


Fleet maintenance plays a major role and forms a priority when it comes to plying buses on long routes like Jodhpur, Jalore and Udaipur. All the buses are remotely monitored by gps at the company headquarters and at its brancehs throughout the route end to end. Proper communication and exclusive contact numbers are used to contact bus crew members and company staff 24x7. Driver training forms an important part in SRS. Apart from a 7 day certificate coaching at Volvo Workshop at Hoskote, Bengaluru, SRS has an initial driver training program. As far as on routes exceeding 1000 kms are concerned, SRS puts experienced drivers on-board its coaches, and does a regular follow up. The crews also get trained regarding regarding pick up and handling passenger services enroute.

Adequate Fleet Maintenance and Workshop facilities


SRS has its wokshop facilities in Bengaluru. It includes sections like general check up, tyre check up, wheel allignment section, air conditioning maintenance, electrical works, upholstery and seat cover cleaning sections. The bus interior cleaning, vehicle cleaning, curtain and blanket cleaning is done on basis of outsourcing. The workshop also has a team of  Volvo trained mechanics and a supervisor, a Scania technician to look after issues in the coaches. A driver trainer is also present. The fleet operator has float parts at its offices at Belagavi, Hubballi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Ahmednagar, Mumbai and Nashik. SRS sources further added that their tyre section has a Nitrogen tyre filling unit, and all tubeless tyres in its coaches use nitrogen, which helps in keeping the tyres cool during long journeys. 

As a sustainable operator, SRS gives utmost importance to passenger amenities and comfort. It provides mineral water bottles and blankets on its coaches. SRS buses stop at hygenic vegetarian restaurants and hotels as far as possible on its routes. The margin of journey time and food / bio breaks is adjusted in convenience with passenger comfort on longer distance routes like Gujarat and Rajasthan. Apart from providing on-board entertainment on its premium ac coaches like Volvo, Scania , SRS provides individual led's for entertainment on its sleeper coaches on long journeys. The company sources further added that they have plans of offering newspapers, snacks, live satellite tv channels on board their coaches, soon. Automatic announcements and driver id's will also be introduced. An important leap in services will be dieseltronics - diesel management system., which will be soon made functional for SRS Coaches.

Narrating about their services, SRS Sources told that maintenance of timings in departure and arrival at destinations, passengers services gives them an edge over their competitors. Tracking suggestions and valuable feedbacks from passengers and acting promptly on them have helped the company in its strategy to improve the services.

On its plan of expanding its service to new destinations, company sources told to ozobus that, "We have a dream of connecting the ends of the country length and breathwise. As our tagline reads - 'Connects People & Places' we are coming up with ultra long routes to be started by 1st quarter of 2017 : Kanyakumari - Delhi and Kanyakumari - Kolkata." The company also plans to connect to Odisha and Uttar Pradesh as told to Ozobus. Concluding, SRS sources told, "We want to sustain as a big fleet operator providing better passenger services on our luxurious services, with core-connectivity, as our technical brace and with values of commitment and dedicated service as motto of our company".
