ASTC (Assam State Transport Corporation), the state run STU in Assam is all set to introduce premium Mercedes-Benz coaches in Assam, soon. With the corporation undergoing a facelift policy recently in introducing premium buses across the state, under PPP (Public Private Partnership) model, the trend of travelling by premium coaches is picking up gradually among the passengers in Assam, on long routes. It may be recalled that ASTC have recently introduced, premium Volvo biaxle B8R and multiaxle B11R I-Shift (Automated Manual Transmission) coaches at an inaugural ceremony held at its headquarters located at Paltanbazar, Guwahati. Redbus bookings show a gradual increase in passenger occupancy on the inaugural premium Volvo bus schedules, which is a good sign of these coaches being accepted in Assam and North East as a future mode of luxury and comfortable travelling.
