Childhood passions and fascinations generally diminish for many as they grow up, but for few others they have become goals to achieve in life, Biswajit Baruah, Son of Late Dilip Kumar Baruah and Rekha Baruah, a native of Guwahati, Assam has a similar story. A native Assamese staying at Belagavi, Karnataka is an inspired Bus Entrepreneur, Enthusiast, Journalist and a Amateur CV-Photographer.

Buses have been a childhood passion for Biswajit. A product of KLS Gogte Institute of Technology, Belagavi - Biswajit is the founder and CEO of Hive Sustainable Solutions, a Belagavi based start up company, which deals with providing sustainable solutions of bus fleet operations and bus industry as a whole, in India. Biswajit has worked previously as a 'Mentor and Director' of a Bengaluru based start-up 'Bus-Bucket' and its sister concern 'Ozobus' , before starting his own venture - 'Hive' at Belagavi. Biswajit has expertise in Automobile and Bus Journalism. His initial start up initiative of Blog Writing through his Bus Blog took him to work as a freelance 'Consulting Editor' to India's premium Commercial Vehicle Magazine - 'Motor India'. He is also a guest writer for Belagavi's premiere news and current affairs website - 'All About Belgaum'.

Biswajit started his passion as an amateur Bus Photographer and till date have captured more than 100,000 pictures of buses. He is fond of gaining and sharing technical knowledge about mechanics and electronics which drive buses. He also likes heavy commercial vehicles like trucks, excavators, cranes etc. Biswajit visits expos and exhibitions Pan India to meet people from the bus and CV Industry and to learn about products and latest technologies. His Blog and his facebook page - 'Biswajit - SVM Chaser' is followed by many top bus companies and OEMs for insights and feedback. Biswajit is well known amongst the bus fleet operators in India and is well recognized by the top operators like VRL Travels, SRS Travels and KSRTC in Karnataka, for his views and insights regarding sustainable bus fleet operations and services.

With a Pan-India approach, Biswajit stresses on the required effort for sustainable bus transport in India. He believes that Passenger Service and the Bus Crew Category is the most sought area, which needs urgent attention to bring streamline development in bus services across the country. An interview with Gurpreet Singh Sehmi - MD and Owner Prakash Body Constructions, Nagaon

It was in the month of July 2015, that i happen to visit Prakash Body Constructions (PBC) Nagaon. Nagaon is situated approximately 128 kms from Guwahati, the capital of State of Assam and Gateway to North East India. The sole motive to visit PBC was to meet  Mr Gurpreet Singh Sehmi, Managing Director and owner of PBC, and to know more about bus body building and his inspirational entrepreneur success in North East India. 

PBC as we know has played an important role in the Vehicle Body Building, and providing Custom Automotive Modifications. As respect to the bus sector in North East, PBC have not only supplied buses to state owned ASTC (Assam State Transport Corporation), but also it has many private operator clients from Assam and whole North East. Apart from North East India, PBC has also made a Pan India venture by supplying buses to BSRTC (Bihar State Road Transport Corporation) and Caravan Buses to many of its clients across India.

Gurpreet Singh Sehmi, is a successful entrepreneur from Assam and North East India  in the field of Vehicle Body Making and providing solutions to Customized Vehicle Modifications. From Luxury buses to executive caravan coaches to compact series vehicles like Mobile Ambulances, ICU (Intensive Care Unit), to Mobile food carts, Religious preaching vehicles to Election Campaigning vehicles, PBC has a large line up in its Ala Carte of Vehicle manufacturing and Customizing. 

Gurpreet did his computer basics in 2004, after which he moved to Delhi for his degree in Auto CAD followed by his BBA from Chennai. From 2007, Gurpreet was full fledgedly into Bus Body Building Business. He says he is currently the third generation into this vehicle business, followed by his father, who was into truck field.

Gurpreet says his clients are generally STU's (State Transport Undertakings)  like ASTC (Assam State Transport Corporation), Private Bus Operators, Politicians, Business Class people, Artists and Musicians etc who have different requirement for their vehicles according to their field and work arena. 

As regards to STU's, PBC has provided vehicles to states like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Bihar, Bodoland Transport Service etc, Mr Singh added.  Private Operators from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Bihar and Meghalaya too had orders in PBC as told by Mr Gurpreet. Caravan Buses have been supplied to politicians with bullet proofing keep in mind their requirements of safety. Mobile Ambulances, Clinics, ICUs, Dental Clinics, Trauma Vans have been a major demand from the medical sector as it provides mobility of necessary emergency health services to remote villages all over North east. Mr Singh also added that  such services were in demand and the supply was met by him successfully.

Upon being asked about technical exhibitions and expos that he visits, Mr Gurpreet said he have been to many such expos like Bus World India - Mumbai, Delhi Auto Expo, Noida Auto Expo, Canton fair China, Shanghai Bus Expo and Components Fair etc. He further added that Indian market has a good future but the technology has to improve  meet the current competition in the World Market. 

Gurpreet was very much in praise of the Chinese Bus Market and quality that China has. Upon being asked as of what have impressed him so much about the Chinese Bus Industry, he mentioned few points in brief about the Chinese Bus Market and Chinese industry as a whole 
  • Availability of Raw Materials
  • Good Connectivity between Bus Manufacturing Plant and Sea ports 
  • Helpful Chinese Government Policy regarding export related matters

Upon being asked about the Future of the Bus Market in North East India, Mr Singh cited that there are many problems which have plagued the North East market. Some of the reasons he mentioned are 
  • Improper Road Connectivity 
  • Export Problem
  • Improper connectivity to Sea Ports 
On being asked about his future plans, Gurpreet Sehmi told he has plans for a tie up with a Chinese Company for his future endeavours and projects. He is also very much looking forward to application of ARAI Bus Code 052 in India.

With last concluding question as of what message he wants to convey to the Upcoming Entrepreneurs from Assam, Gurpreet Sehmi stressed on the need of talents from Assam to invest and venture in Assam. Due to improper and unsuitable conditions, Assam and North east is losing talents to other states and also India is losing talents to other countries he added. 
Mr Singh concluded that he is also open to budding students and entrepreneurs to visit his workshop located at Nagaon, Assam. He says he welcomes industrial visits from Colleges and Institutes not only from Assam and North East, but also from all over India.

A recent visit to PBC (Prakash Body Constructions), Nagaon, Assam (India) to study bus body building made me introduce to the emerging Chinese Bus Market through the knowledge and feedback of Mr Gurpreet Singh Sehmi, Managing Director and Owner of PBC Nagaon.
